So far, our July is not planning out nearly like we hoped it would.
A week and a half ago, Shaun came home from a farewell party on Wednesday afternoon feeling bad. He promptly spiked a low fever (100.5°), followed by a stomach bug (quite possibly the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite making the rounds right now). It took him completely out of work on Thursday, and he spent much of the day sleeping it off.
On Friday, he was feeling a bit better, so he had a small bite to eat and went in to work to take part in a change of command ceremony that he had a role in. He then spent the rest of the day at work, waiting for his Physical Therapy appointment that afternoon. He came home Friday exhausted and went back to bed.
Saturday was actually a bit of a relapse. By lunchtime, Shaun was feeling so poorly that he called Tricare looking for an Urgent Care appointment. Instead, they referred him to the base ER. They didn't diagnose exactly what was causing the bug but did give him a bag of IV fluids to get back on top of things and some medication to help with the symptoms.
Shaun was feeling mostly better on Sunday and right as rain on Monday, to make it back to work. Through it all, Anna was there helping Shaun out with chicken soup, chicken fingers, and even served as chauffeur to take him to the ER.
With last weekend more or less a bust, we were looking forward to making good use of this weekend to catch up on some of the fun we missed out on last weekend. That was until yesterday...
At Anna's gym, they were doing some jumping exercises, with the alternative of just stepping it out. Anna decided that all of this gym work over the last few months had really helped improve her fitness and that she was going to try the jump instead of stepping it out. Apparently, her ankle didn't get the message in time. On the very first jump she landed wrong, crumbled the ground, arms flailing, and needed to be helped up off the floor. She spent the rest of the day with her foot up and a compression sock on to try to manage it, but by 6:30 pm, it was still getting worse.
Shaun drove Anna to Urgent Care where they took some x-rays. The good news is that nothing was broken, but they could definitely tell that it was a very bad sprain.
That makes Anna the couch-ridden member this weekend giving Shaun the opportunity to wait on her. Other than her ankle, she's actually in pretty good spirits, and able to laugh a bit when Shaun is attempting to push her around the house using an office chair in lieu of a wheelchair.
We're hoping that Anna will be back on her feet (literally) by Tuesday. Maybe next weekend, then, we can actually have the fun we've been saving up three weeks for!
